Flaounes
What is Flaounes?
Flaounes are traditional Easter breads which have been served in Cyprus for generations. These breads are filled with a mixture of traditional cheeses and eggs for a rich treat which is served when the Lenten fast is broken. Cyprus, flaounes are promptly usable at bakeries during the Easter season, and many households make up batches and disseminate them to friends.
Ingredients
Flaounes Bread
3 cups strong plain flour
1 tspn salt
2 tspns sugar
2 tbspns olive oil
1 sachet easy bake yeast
cup of warm water to mix
Filling
6ozs cheddar cheese
6ozs halloumi cheese
1 tspn baking powder
1 tspn dried mint
2 eggs
Half cup sultanas
To decorate
1 egg beaten
Sesame seeds
Flaounes are the traditional Easter cheese breads we make in Cyprus.
