EDM Electrical Discharge Machining

What is EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining?)
EDM is The Short form of The Electrical Discharge Machining. The Electrical Discharge Machining is a machining method primarily utilize for hard metals or those that would be impossible to machine with traditional techniques. It’s in particular well-fit for cutting intricate contours or sensitive cavities that would be difficult to develop with a grinder, an end mill or other cutting tools.

Advantages of EDM
Complex shapes that would differently be difficult to produce with conventional cutting tools
Extremely hard material to very close tolerances
Very small work pieces where conventional cutting tools may damage the part from excess cutting tool pressure.
There is no direct contact between tool and work piece.

Disadvantages of EDM
The slow rate of material removal.
The additional time and cost utilize for creating electrodes for ram/sinker EDM.
produce sharp corners on the workpiece is hard due to electrode wear.
Specific power consumption is very high.
