Training Bra
What is a Training Bra?
A training bra is manufactured for young girls who have started to grow breasts but who don’t yet fit into women’s bra sizes. Normal sizes of the training bra normally range from AAA to A cups. Training bras were first manufactured in the 1950s, in response to the feeling of adolescent and pre-adolescent girls to “fit in” among their peers with more grew breasts.
How to Choose a Training Bra
Follow these steps to pick the right bra.
1. Encourage the young woman to try on multiple types of bras for her size so she can find one that fits comfortably.
2. Purchase more than one bra if possible so that she can wash one while the other is in use.
3. Discuss the benefits of under-wire versus elasticized bras, padding and fabric options, types of bra clasps, and colors.
4. Demonstrate how to put on a bra by slipping the arms through the straps, fitting each breast into the cups and clasping the back. Adjust the straps for a comfortable and snug fit.
5. Talk about the purpose for wearing a bra. A woman-to-young-woman chat may help to alleviate the anxiety of shopping for a training bra. The chat should comfort the young woman and allow her to ask questions about her body.
6. Select the style bra that will get the most use, considering the young woman’s wardrobe. Neutral colors such as white; cream and tan are versatile and can be worn under most shirts without being visible.
7. Go to a large department store with a lingerie department for a proper bra fitting. Most lingerie departments have consultants who can take the young woman’s measurements and show her how to choose the right bra for her size. This teaches the importance of proper fitting for support and comfort.
