Who was John Falstaff

Who was John Falstaff?
Sir John Falstaff is a fictional character who appears in three plays by William Shakespeare as a companion to Prince Hal, the future King Henry V. He is originally introduced in two history plays as a drinking companion and mentor to Hal, the son of King Henry VI.

The character of Falstaff first seems in Henry IV, Part 1, but was at first named Sir John Old castle. Experts declare that Falstaff was not the original name for the character. There is evidence that asserts Shakespeare proposed to name him “John Old castle,” but was forced to change it after the protests by a descendent of a real man of that name.
