Tres Leches Cake

Tres Leches Cake
A Tres Leches cake, or Pastel Tres Leches , or Pan Tres Leches, is a sponge cake—in some recipes, a butter cake—soaked in three kinds of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. The three milks in the soaking sauce for Tres Leches are sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and heavy cream. The heavy cream is also dashed up to use as the topping. This dessert recipe occurs from a restaurant called Fonda San Miguel in Austin, Texas.

Due to the rich ingredients and that it is soaked in creamy syrup; Tres Leches Cake is extremely dense and damp, almost like custard. When butter is not used, the Tres Leches is a very light cake, with lots of air bubbles. This distinct quality is why it does not have a soggy consistency, contempt being soaked in a mixture of three types of milk. Tres Leches is sweet and delightful, but it is nothing like a traditional dry cake that is light and fluffy.
