Alternative Therapy
Alternative Therapy
In Western culture, alternative therapy is any improving practice “that does not fall within the realm of conventional therapy”, or “that which has not been shown consistently to be effective. It is frequently opposed to evidence based medicine and includes therapies with an historical or cultural, rather than a scientific, basis.
Alternative therapy practices are as diverse in their foundations as in their methodologies. Practices might integrate or base themselves on traditional therapy, folk knowledge, spiritual faiths, or newly conceived approaches to improving. Jurisdictions where alternative medical practices are sufficiently widespread might authorize and regulate them.
