Lissamphibia

What is Lissamphibia?
The subclass Lissamphibia includes all recent amphibians and means polish amphibia. Lissamphibia is the only surviving subclass of amphibians — the other two, Lepospondyli and Labyrinthodontia inducing gone extinct in the Permian and the Cretaceous respectively. Extant amphibians fall into one of three orders — the Anura, the Caudata or Urodela, and the Gymnophiona or Apoda.

The earliest known members of subclass Amphibia are basal temnospondyls dated to 340 million years ago, in the Early Carboniferous. The first recognized member of Lissamphibia, “Hotton’s Ancient Frog,” also called as a “frogamander,” is dated to the Early Permian, 290 million years ago.
