Treatment for campylobacter
1. Generally there is little treatment isolated from rest and maintaining up fluid intake
2. Sometimes antibiotics will be dictated
3. Dehydrated children might need endovenous fluid treatment in hospital
4. The illness is contagious and children must be kept at home until they have been clear of indications for at least two days
5. Campylobacter is a notifiable disease in New Zealand, which means your doctor is obliged to report it to the Medical Officer of Health of the Public Health Service.
6. Good hygiene is important to avoid contracting the illness or spreading it to others.
Symptoms of campylobacter
Campylobacter may begin with a flu-like illness
Diarrhoea
Vomiting
Abdominal pain and cramps
Fever
Tiredness
Muscle pain
