An air gun is a rifle, pistol, or shotgun which fires missiles by entails of compacted air or early gas; in distinguish to a firearm which damages a propellant. Most air guns expend metallic missiles as ammunition. Air guns that simply expend plastic missiles are categorized as air soft guns. Air guns constitute the oldest pneumatic technology. The oldest being mechanical air gun, a bellows air gun dating back to about 1580, is in the Livrustkammaren Museum in Stockholm.
