Custody Evaluation

Custody Evaluation
Custody evaluations are very important in determining child custody and access during contested divorce proceedings. For many men the first time they learn that they are not going to be custodial parents is when they experience divorce court and learn what happens in child custody disagreements. A custody evaluation is often the best way to determine what is best for the child and make recommendations to the court concerning child custody and visitation. The custody evaluation is conducted by a specified mental health professional.

A custody evaluation can be:
1. Agreed to by the parties and their attorneys (legally referred to as “by stipulation”)
2. Requested by either side in a custody dispute, subject to approval by a judge, or
3. Ordered by a judge
