What is need based scholarship?
A need based scholarship may be extended by the school, a business, an organization, or a private endowment. Some are based exclusively on academic performance, some on ethnic background, and others on financial circumstances. This last is a need based scholarship. The student should also check online resources, which may also have lists of available need based scholarships. If a need based scholarship is available, it may be just what a student requires to help her attend the college of her choice. However, the financial consideration must be met first.
These scholarships are in general given to students who have shown outstanding academic achievement or have made important community or academic shares. National Merit Association and local organizations such as churches, associations, and clubs like the Knights of Columbus often have merit-based scholarships available. The Sallie Mae Fund has awarded more than $15.5 million in scholarships to more than 6,350 students.
