Trope, designed by ambient pioneer Brian Eno and musician / software designer Peter Chilvers, expands further on the ideas introduced by Bloom, their acclaimed iPhone application. The term trope derives from the ancient Greek word – tropos “turn, direction, way, related to the root of the verb, “to turn, to direct, to alter, to change”.
Trope immerses users in endlessly evolving sound scapes created by tracing abstract shapes onto the screen, varying the tone with each movement. A Trope is an interpolation in a liturgical text, or the embellishment brought about by interpolation (i.e. by introductions, insertions, or additions). Herein lies the difference between the Trope and the closely-related Sequence or Prose.
