Regatta
What is Regatta?
A regatta is a boat race, more generally a series of boat races, along with the coming with events. Regattas usually demand either rowing or sailing, although some with powered boats have been gaining popularity, and they are governed by conventional rules which are based in centuries of tradition. The attendees tend to dress up for the event, attention a variety of dances, lunches, dinners, and parties which are linked with the regatta, some of which are quite swanky and most definitely invitation-only. Regattas may be hosted by a yacht club, sailing association, town or school as in the case of the UK’s National School Sailing Association and Interscholastic Sailing Association (high school) regattas or Intercollegiate Sailing Association (college) regattas.
Some regattas take place on a periodic basis in the same determination, while others follow composite rules about timing and determination. The winners receive cups, cash prizes, wreaths, and accolades from the crowd, with members of the crowd watching from stands along the shoreline or from other boats. Although regattas are typically amateur competitions, they are usually very highly organized, formally structured events, with complex rules precisely describing the schedule and procedures of the event. As a general rule, a regatta is named for the region where it occurs, and participants may need to be issued formal invitations, rather than simply showing up.
