How many types of African drums?
The drums were first brought in when African individuals were brought to Cuba, as part of their spiritual practice, and over time were used for more secular purposes. One famous group of African drums is the batá drums of the Yorùbá people of Nigeria. The batá drums comprise of a set of three or five drums of different sizes, which can be played either with a stick or one’s hands. They are usually played with a bind, and the sound they make can be rather loud, containing great distances. Talking drums work very well for many African languages, because the changing sounds can in some cases approximate quite accurately the language itself. Drums in Africa come in different forms and are used for a multitude of functions. Certain drums, however, are far more popular than others.
