Rail Transport
What is rail transport?
Rail transport is the means of transfer of passengers and goods by way of wheeled vehicles continuing rail tracks. Track usually comprises of steel rails placed on sleepers/ties and ballast, on which the rolling stock, commonly fitted with metal wheels, moves. However, other variations are also possible, such as slab chase where the rails are tightened to a concrete foundation resting on a created subsurface. Railway transportation is capable of high levels of passenger and cargo usage and energy efficiency, but is often less flexible and more capital-modifier than highway transportation is, when lower traffic levels are conceived.
This article is about the technical workings and procedures of railways in India which is run by a state-owned company. Rail transport is the process of conveying or sending people, livestock, and general goods using a vehicle mounted onto a rail system. In this application, the power to move the device was derived from either humans or animals pulling the vehicle up and down the series of tracks. The ties kept the two rails in proper alignment and helped to make the locomotive more stable when moving along the track system.
