Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was launched in 1994. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is the prime institute of engineering, science and technology in the north-eastern part of the country with a developing list of honors earned nationally and internationally. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati started in 1995.Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati’s campus is on a rambling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 kms. from the heart of the city.
