NEIGRIHMS is an Autonomous Institute launched by Government of India in 1987 under the Meghalaya Registration of Societies Act 1983. The then Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi devoted the Institute to the memory of Late Indira Gandhi, previous Prime Minister for her promise to the welfare and affection for the people of North Eastern Region. NEIGRIHMS has been the First and the only Postgraduate Medical Institute in the North Eastern Region and third in the nation launched by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.it a part of hospital there are running education activity relevant to medical study.we are can say that Neigrihms is a perfect combination of medical institute and hospital.
