One Year Course for Graduate Mech Engg in MERI
One Year Course for Graduate Mech Engg in Meri aims to equip you with the Knowledge, Skills and Attitude required working on ship as a Junior Engineer. The Course is a tightly structured one which you will complete in one year. The syllabus, which is in the form of 15 competences to be mastered, is laid down by the International Maritime Organisation and ratified and enforced by the Director General Shipping, Govt. of India. The Syllabus lays down in great detail the number of hours of training in each subject and in classrooms, laboratories and workshops.
Semester One
Classes and Basic Skill Workshop on alternate days
Semester Two
Practical Skill trainning at various location, including the Institute’s workshop, the Ship Repair workshop inside the chennai Harbour, working on ship as well as in a power plant.
Eligibility Criteria
Mandatory
1. Engineering Degree from an AICTE approved college..
2. BE (Mech) /B.Tech (Mech) / BSc (Mech Engg) / BE (Naval Arch).
3. Min 50% Overall.
4. Min 50% marks in English in either 10th or 12th Std.
5. Age below 28 years as on date of start of course.
6. Medically fit certified by a Doctor approved by Director General Shipping.
7. Eye sight ± 2.5.
8. No colour blindness.
Preference
1. Sponsorship by Shipping Company.
2. Fluency in English.
3. Min 65% Overall (8 semesters).
4. Extra Curricular activities: NSS / NCC / Sports.
5. Family Members / relatives in Shipping.
Admission
The Institute is authorized to train 48 Engineers every year. We admit them in 2 batches of 24 each, for courses which commence 1st March and 1st September every year. You can apply on line from our site.
The admission process commences 3 months before the start of the course, if your application is shortlisted you will receive our interview call letter.
Selection Process
The selection process comprises of a entrance test, objective type, of 2 hours covering four subjects. You will be shortlisted based on the test and you’re B.E. Marks. Placed candidates will be called the next day for an interview. Selected candidates will be sent for a medical exam. If you clear your medical, you will be offered a seat, which will be supported by payment of the full Tution fee. Please note we give offer letters subject to your meeting a certain minimum standard. Your seat then gets allotted once you pay the fee. Hence it is advisable to make placements for funds because seats are allotted on a first come, first served basis and delay in preparing the funds may cost you your seat.
