Kerala Handicrafts Development Corporation of Govt Kerala Ltd undertaking, operating under the Industries Department was incorporated in 1968 for undertaking Developmental, Marketing and Welfare activities in the handicrafts sector of Kerala. Handicrafts in Kerala not only showcase the traditional handicrafts to the world but too serve because a source of bread and cover to the many poor traditional craftsmen of the state. Kerala’s handicraft products are known for their cleverness and craft. Handicrafts in Kerala are either hereditary occupation or practiced through an amateur who has expectant interest in the art.

Kerala has the custom of making beautiful handicrafts with ivory, bamboo, palm leaves, seashells, wood, coconut shells, clay, cloth, metals, stone etc. Many old handicraft artist can be seen in Palaces, old heritage homes, museums , idols, kathakali masks, embroidery works, etc. The artists are experts in making beautiful flower vases, ash trays, ornamental plates, jewel boxes, miniature boats, elephants etc.
