HPMC Grades
HPMC Grades
The shape of the Hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) viscosity grade and particle size on the release profile of metronidazole was assessed at viscosity grades of 15, 860, 5000, 20000 and 30000 CP and at particle sizes of 163, 213, 335 and 505 μm. The solutions presented a linear relationship between the inverse of the release rate and the viscosity grade of HPMC, at a HPMC ratio of 10%.
The desired amount of unlike grades of HPMC, with and absent PEG were weighed and mixed with about half of the calculated hot distilled water, and the answers were left overnight. When used as release-controlling coating agents for tableted core-based pulsatile delivery systems, three different hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) grades, Methocel E5, E50, and K4M, offered lag phases of varying duration and a immediate and quantitative model drug release.
