The NAIP (National Agricultural Innovation Project) was established successfully by Shri Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture in the presence of Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, India Govt. and Dr. Mangala Rai, Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR on 26/07/2006.
The NAIP aims to better livelihood security of rural people living in the chose disadvantaged regions by technology-led innovation systems, encompassing the wider process of social and economic modify covering whole stakeholders.
Components of NAIP
The National Agricultural Innovation Project will work by 4 components:
The ICAR as the Catalyzing Agent for the Management of Change in the Indian NARS,
Research on Production to Consumption Systems (PCS),
Research on Sustainable Rural Livelihood Security (SRLS),
Basic and Strategic Research in the Frontier Areas of Agricultural Sciences (BSR),
Total Budget for the NAIP
The total budget is US $ 250 million: the World Bank will fund US $ 200 million as credit and US $ 50 million through the Govt. India.
