CA CPT 2012 Syllabus

ICAI Chartered Accountancy Common Proficiency Test (CA CPT) is an entry level entrance exam for the admission to Chartered Accountancy course. This exam is conducted by Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) four times a year. CA course is pursued by students concerned in pursing a career in accounting, auditing and taxation.

Structure and Pattern of CA CPT Exam
CA CPT Examination is conducted in Paper Pencil mode of examination. Question paper consists of objective type questions which are of 200 marks. The minimum specifying mark is 100. The question paper follows negative marking system. That is one by fourth of the mark will be deduced for every wrong answer. After clearing this written test students have to under go one and a half years of article ship to get to the next phase of CA. There are lot of centers in and around India, neighboring countries and even overseas for writing the exam. In each states of India there are centers for almost all the districts.

Qualification Criteria for CA CPT Exam
The candidate must have either passed Senior Secondary Examination or its equivalent from a discerned institution or registered for CPT course with Board of Studies of ICAI. Also the candidate who has already registered for Professional Education – I Course with Board of Studies of ICAI and switched to CPT can appear for the entrance exam.

Application Procedure for CA CPT Exam
The Information Brochure for CA CPT is available on the payment of Rs.600/- to the exam authority’s address. It contains applications for admission to Common Proficiency Test (Paper-Pencil mode). The candidate choosing centre abroad should pay US $160. Application forms duly filled must be sent back to the Institute’s offices in selected cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Pune. Students residing in these cities can exercise this option. Application form is available online which can be downloaded from the official website of the exam assurance. Online payment using credit card is accepted.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination distributed and carried jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, MHRD, and Government of India. The GATE committee, which comprises of examples from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results. Conducted by one of seven Indian Institutes of Technology in rotation, GATE is an annual exam for admission to M.Tech and M.S. programmes in most engineering institutes in India [citation needed]. It is regarded as a benchmark test for engineering graduates in India. This examination is coordinated by a commission, comprising of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board – GATE, Department of Education, and Government of India. The pattern and syllabus are usually based on a candidate’s B.Tech. or BE syllabus. Minimum eligibility for looking in this exam is normally a B.Tech, BE, B. Arch. or M.Sc. The exam is usually conducted on second Sunday of February.

The current format of the GATE exam paper pattern is:
Total of 150 marks, fully objective, with three sections
Group I: Question Numbers 1 to 20 (20 questions) will carry one mark each.
Group II: Question numbers 21 to 75 (55 questions) will carry two marks each. Out of this, Q.71 to Q.75 may be common data based questions.
Group III: Question Numbers 76 to 85 (10 questions) will carry two marks each.

Advantages of GATE Scores:-
PSU’s like BARC, NPCIL, HAL etc. give importance to GATE scores for various job positions in their organizations.

Applying to several institutes:-
Usually IISc application dates are within 4-5 days of announcement of results. Most institutes do not specify their cutoffs for previous years. So there is a general confusion in terms of which institutes and which specializations to go for.But in the recent years IIT Kharagpur alone in specifying its last year cut-off mark
